Political Action Committee

Public policy is determined through the political process. KidsMD PAC, the Virginia AAP Political Action Committee, is your voice in that process. Few professions are as heavily regulated as healthcare providers – elected officials and their appointees have an outsized impact on how pediatricians are able to provide care and the health and wellness of our patients.

KidsMD PAC, funded by members and pediatric practices across the Commonwealth, provides financial support to candidates who support a thriving pediatric practice in Virginia and a healthy future for Virginia’s children.

We have a strong record of success in the Virginia General Assembly which is undergirded by our advocacy efforts including:

  • Advocating for Medicaid expansion for our patients and their parents
  • Virginia has the toughest educational requirements for NPs in independent private practice in the United States
  • Fighting against scope of practice expansion by naturopaths and a new “doctorate of medical science”
  • Mandating child safety caps on liquid nicotine that is used in e-cigarettes
  • Prohibiting smoking in cars with children aged eight and younger
  • Requiring neonatal abstinence syndrome to be added to the list of reportable diseases
  • Defeating legislation that would remove the cap on medical malpractice suits for pediatricians
  • Instituting the VMAP program to increase access for child mental health care

… and those are just a sample of our successful advocacy as an association!

Please discuss a group contribution with your practice members, either individually or at your next practice meeting. Contributing as a group is a relatively painless way to support the PAC and sets an excellent example for others to follow. Please consider a practice-wide contribution of $1000, $500 or even just $250 per member of your group to support the PAC as we strive to support your interests before the General Assembly.

Contributions to KidsMD PAC are not tax deductible as charitable contributions. Virginia law requires all political action committees to maintain a record of the name, mailing address, occupation information (includes type of work, employer and principal place of business) for each individual who contributes to our committee. All donations over $100 are reported.
