Healthy Children need a Healthy EnvironmentEnvironmental Action in Virginia
Pediatricians have a rich history of leading their states and the nation in addressing environmental health hazards. From combating the effects of climate change to addressing evolving health threats such as PFAS-contaminated water, Virginia’s pediatricians can lead the way towards our vision of healthy people in healthy places on a healthy planet. We hope that you will join us!
The Problem and Our Goal
Children in Virginia face threats to the water they drink, the air they breathe and the climate in which they live and will one day raise their own families.
Preserving a livable climate for human health and prosperity is a growing advocacy priority within the health community. The Virginia Chapter joins national AAP and other state chapters across the country in supporting policies that ensure a healthy planet for healthy children.
Our Mission
Every child deserves to live, play, and grow in a safe and healthy environment. Children are uniquely susceptible to environmental threats due to their excessive exposure to toxins relative to body weight, vulnerability during critical windows of development, and lack of control over their environments compared to adults. We strive to use our clinical expertise to advocate with leaders, educators, and stakeholders across the Commonwealth to make Virginia the nation’s healthiest place for kids.
